Ranchi,
the capital of Jharkhand is situated in Chhotanagpur plateau, at an altitude of
652 meters (2000 ft) with temperate climate. Temperature during summer hovers
around 25o to 40o C, whereas in winter it is 5o to 25o C. Monsoon experiences
medium to heavy showers. Winter clothing is recommended from November to March.

To all the above places, bus service and hired car service from Ranchi are
available.
Ranchi has direct train service to all important cities like Kolkata, Delhi,
Patna, Mumbai, Bangalore, Nagpur, Bilaspur, Singrauli, Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar,
Puri, Chennai etc. However, for exact timings please contact Railway Enquiry
through hostel reception.
Ranchi has daily Indian Airlines flights to connect Delhi, Mumbai and Patna
& Air Sahara to connect Delhi. It has also Air Deccan flights to Kolkata.
Since these flight schedules keep on changing, airlines offices need to be
contacted for current timings.

IICM is situated in the outskirts of the city, about 10 Kms from the heart of
the city (Firayalal Chowk). It is 13 Kms from Ranchi Rly station, 15 Kms from
Hatia Rly station and 15 Kms from Airport. The most common mode of transport is
autorickshaws. However availability of public transport facility to IICM gets
scanty after 8.00 PM in the night.

Indian Institute of Coal Management had achieved Six Sigma Quality Level in

Six Sigma Certification in Quality means that there are less than four defects
on million opportunities - meaning thereby that in all the above areas, the

The IICM academy includes a mix of highly experienced and qualified core
faculty as well as a group of visiting faculty from customer organisations and
reputed academic institutions to combine theoretical rigour with application.
The pedagogy is interactive as well as participative and the methods include
lectures, case discussions, seminars, group discussion, business games, role
plays, simulation exercises, structured & semi-structured group work and
field visits.
Eminent academicians, policy makers from government and senior executives from
industry are frequently invited to deliver lectures at IICM.

Apart from the participants of Coal India, IICM also welcomes participants from
Govt. / PSUs, and Private sectors in the training programmes conducted by IICM,
subject to availability of seats. Fee charged is Rs. 3000/- per day per
residential participant and Rs. 1000/- for non-residential participant,
exclusive of service taxes. In case of a programme having foreign country
exposure, charges will vary and will be decided later on.

The main academic block houses
lecture halls, class rooms, syndicate rooms, computer centre,
internet lab, library and a cafeteria.
Angar, a small museum depicts key
activities of coal mining sector and IICM activities.

'Disha' an air-conditioned auditorium equipped with multimedia projection
system and modern conferencing facilities with a
capacity to accommodate 250 persons.
'Hall of Culture' a conference hall with modern conferencing facilities and a
capacity to accommodate 100 persons.

'Habitat' a 46 room (92 beds) hostel with modern amenities
'Gurukul' a 80 bed hostel with modern amenities
'Dronacharya', 'Vidyasagar', 'Damodar' and 'Suvarnarekha' - faculty houses for
the visiting faculty.
